Bible Polygyny

 Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will cut a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I cut with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which covenant of Mine they broke, although I was a husband to them, says Jehovah; Jer 31:31-32

God is a monogamous God. God is not a polygamous God. We will often hear monogamy only Christians defend their position by proclaiming such anti Biblical statements.

The worse case of Scriptural gymnastics can be found in the mouths of those who proclaim to be Bible students, they claim they rightly divide the Word of Truth and know what it is to compare spiritual with spiritual, to test things differing.

Such Christians know that Jehovah of the Old Testament is the Lord Christ of the New as do many other Christians who compared the statements concerning Jehovah with those given to our Saviour Christ Jesus. The reader might like to consider just a few verses from Isaiah:
Isa 43:3 For I am Jehovah your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

sa 43:10 You are My witnesses, says Jehovah, and My servant whom I have chosen; that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me no God was formed, nor shall there be after Me.
Isa 43:11 I, I am Jehovah; and there is none to save besides Me.
Isa 43:12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shown, when there was no strange god among you; therefore you are My witnesses, says Jehovah, that I am God.

sa 45:15 Truly You are a God who hides Yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior.

Isa 45:18 For so says Jehovah the Creator of the heavens, He is God, forming the earth and making it; He makes it stand, not creating it empty, but forming it to be inhabited. I am Jehovah, and there is no other.

Isa 45:21 Declare and bring near; yea, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this of old? Who has told it from then? Is it not I, Jehovah? And there is no other God besides Me; a just God and a Savior; there is none besides Me.
Isa 45:22
Turn to Me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

We leave the student to find the NT passages which ascribe the same virtues to our blessed Saviour.

Most right dividers acknowledge that Christ is Jehovah which brings a quandary for those opposing polygyny. You see, if our Lord is Jehovah of the OT, then He is already in polygynous New Covenant relationship with the dual houses of Israel and Judah.

But wait, the Lord Christ is the Bridegroom of a completely different and third company, namely the over comers or faithful remnant which up until the end of the book of Acts included Gentiles. The reader might like to consider these passages:
Mat 9:14 Then the disciples of John came to Him saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?
Mat 9:15 And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast.

Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of Heaven be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
See also, verses 5, 6, and 10.

During Acts the relationship between the company of believers was figured like this in the apostle Paul:
2Co 11:1 I would that you were bearing with me a little in foolishness; but indeed bear with me.
2Co 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy. For I have espoused you to one Man, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

Most of us know "the church" of today is not the bride as the Word of God makes clear (see Ephesians 1:22-23, 4:13).

The "Bride", the "wife" of our Lord Christ is the New Jerusalem;
Rev 21:2 And I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband.

Rev 21:9 And one of the seven angels who had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, Come here, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife.
Rev 21:10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of Heaven from God,

The New Jerusalem descends to the inner portion of the Promised Land and the overcomers, the faithful remnant will be blessed with faithful Abraham in that inner portion, in the New Jerusalem. That group, that called out company are referred to as a chaste virgin being associated with the Bride, the New Jerusalem.

In this case, the faithful remnant, while part of the Kingdom plan of God for the earth, are in "married" relationship with our Lord Christ, the Bridegroom.

Oh dear, the maths is not too difficult, this could put our Lord Christ into a three way polygynous relationship. As Jehovah He is married to the two kingdoms of the nation of Israel, and as the Bridegroom, He is in "married" relationship with a different company "church".

How long will we insist that God is a monogamous God? Until we repent of our hardness and suppression of the truth and accept the Word of God as it clearly stands.
